Background of the Study

Health informatics integrates nursing science, computer science, and information science to facilitate the integration of data, information, knowledge, and wisdom to support patients, nurses, and other healthcare providers in their decision-making during healthcare delivery. 

Statement of the Problem

The integration of health informatics into nursing practice is essential for improving patient care and operational efficiency. However, the level of knowledge and utilization of health informatics among nurses at Federal Teaching Hospital, Gombe, is not well-documented, necessitating an investigation into their competencies and usage patterns.

Objectives of the Study

1. To assess the level of knowledge of health informatics among nurses at Federal Teaching Hospital, Gombe.

2. To evaluate the extent to which nurses utilize health informatics in their daily practice.

3. To identify factors influencing the adoption and use of health informatics among nurses.

Research Questions

1. What is the level of knowledge of health informatics among nurses at Federal Teaching Hospital, Gombe?

2. To what extent do nurses utilize health informatics in their daily practice?

3. What factors influence the adoption and use of health informatics among nurses?

Research Hypotheses

1. Nurses at Federal Teaching Hospital, Gombe, possess a moderate level of knowledge of health informatics.

2. The utilization of health informatics among nurses is limited.

3. Factors such as training, infrastructure, and organizational support significantly influence the adoption and use of health informatics among nurses.

Scope and Limitations of the Study

This study will focus on nurses employed at Federal Teaching Hospital, Gombe. Limitations may include variability in individual experiences with health informatics and potential biases in self-reported data.
